Indonesian waters are very complex. Dynamic changes in the water column can take place spatially (space) or temporally (time). The El-Nino and La Nina phenomena are interactions of the sea and the atmosphere, which until now cannot be explained in detail. This phenomenon causes drought and floods in regions in Indonesia. In addition, Indonesia is the only waters crossed by world currents at low latitudes. The importance of Indonesian waters is a challenge in managing and making policies both in the short and long term.
For this reason, one of physical oceanography staff, Noir P. Purba created a free oceanographic database portal that can be downloaded by everyone. The portal can be seen at www.podc.fpik.unpad.ac.id. This portal become one of free website that collected data from insitu data and share to world wide.
