[UNPAD Media Channel] To produce solutions to marine problems, the Department of Marine Affairs, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) Universitas Padjadjaran held an international webinar, “Professor Discovery to Protect Our Ocean (Padoc)”, Wednesday (9/11/2022).
This activity was attended by more than 300 participants consisting of students, researchers, practitioners, lecturers, and high school students. The theme is “The Future of Conservation and Sustainable Exploitation of Aquatic and Marine Resources”.
The mission of this international activity is to campaign for the sea and marine life that is not healthy, find solutions to save the ocean and contribute to the development of science and technology that aims to protect the future of the ocean through education and research.
In a release received by UNPAD Media Channel, this event also aims to promote the internationalization of FPIK UNPAD and expand the network of research, teaching, and expertise exchange, or even conduct joint research.
In his speech, the Dean of FPIK UNPAD, Dr. Sc. Yudi Ihsan, S.Pi, M.Sc., said that the sea is essential to protect future generations. Marine resources must also be supported by conservation. According to Yudi, various current marine issues can be bridged with the importance of the involvement of marine science.
The speakers presented at this international webinar came from the USA and Indonesia (UNPAD).
The first session, the webinar presented Chief Scientist Coral Diagnostic and National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Scientist Anderson Mayfield, PhD, with the topic “Leveraging the Power of Artificial Intelligence to Uncover Resilient Reefs in the Coral Triangle”.
In addition, there were speakers from the Association of Professors from the University of California San Diego and the Scripps Institute; Dr. Andreas Andersson presented the topic of mitigation on coral reefs with the title “Can Seaweed Farming to Mitigate Ocean Acidification on Coral Reef?”.
The speaker from UNPAD itself, namely the HQT Lecturer of the Marine Department of FPIK UNPAD Buntora Pasaribu, Ph.D, spoke in the third session with the topic “Oil bodies biogenesis in Marine Plants”. The last speaker, FPIK UNPAD Marine Lecturer Noir Purba, said about the use of technology in the marine sector with the topic “Leveraging Marine Technology for Ocean Conservation.” (release)*
