MEAL-UNPAD, MCDL-PUSRISKEL and NALAYAN.ID Facilitate Experts in the Marine Aquaculture Sector

Marine Research Laboratory (MEAL) Padjadjaran University (Unpad), Marine and Coastal Data Laboratory (MCDL) Marine Research Center (Pusriskel), together with Startup NALAYAN.ID, on May 13, 2020, held a FAMS (Fishery and Marine Science) Webinar entitled “AQUACULTURE: Issues and Challenges in Indonesia“. The presenters are experts in marine aquaculture technology, namely an academic from the Unpad Fisheries Department, Dr. Eddy Afrianto, and a functional official for Fish Pest and Disease Control (PHPI) at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Dr. Romi Novriadi. This webinar was moderated by Dr. Alexander M.A. Khan from the Unpad Fisheries Department. Also giving a speech at this webinar, Senior Researcher for Oceanography at the Research and Development Center, Dr. Anastasia Rita Tisiana Dwi Kuswardani.

Dr. Eddy Afrianto, a senior lecturer in the field of Fishery Products Technology, explained how microbes improve feed efficiency. He was convinced that microbes are an essential aspect of feeding fish. It was also explained that this feed would have different compositions for different types of fish.

Dr. Romi Novriadi, apart from being a functional official of PHPI at Batam Marine Aquaculture Center, Directorate General of Aquaculture KKP, is Deputy Chair of the Indonesian Aquaculture Society (MAI). He explained the condition of aquaculture in Indonesia and the world. Then Dr. Romi also explained the shrimp farming technique or “shrimp” in Indonesia and its comparison with other countries. He talked about his experience working with a technology that can help feed, especially shrimp. This technology utilizes sound in the water column so fish feed can be more effective and efficient.

The warm and dynamic webinar was attended by 73 participants from various backgrounds. The collaboration between the Marine Research Laboratory (MEAL) of Padjadjaran University (Unpad), the Marine and Coastal Data Laboratory (MCDL) of the Marine Research Center (Pusriskel), and Startup NALAYAN.ID, in organizing the webinar to be sustainable to share Science and Technology on Marine Affairs and Fisheries to advance the scientific community in Indonesia.
