[UNPAD Media Channel] Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, University of Padjadjaran, officially has a portable frozen storage (cold storage) grant from the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP). This grant is the first program given by KKP to universities.
The portable frozen warehouse facility was officially given through a handover event for goods grants by the Director of Logistics of the Directorate General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Maritime and Fishery Products of the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Berny A. Subki to the Deputy Chancellor for Resources and Finance UNPAD Prof. Dr. Ida Nurlinda, M.H., in the Plenary Room of the FPIK UNPAD Dean, Jatinangor, Monday (7/11/2022).
When interviewed by UNPAD Media Channel, FPIK Dean Dr. sc. agr. Yudi Nurul Ihsan, M.Sc., said that this facility assistance is clear evidence of collaboration between universities and the government in solving various challenges in the fisheries and marine sectors.
One of the issues in the fisheries sector is the fishery cold chain system. So far, storing raw materials has become one of the problems. The relatively expensive cost of renting frozen warehouses has a significant impact from the rapid damage of fishery products that are not sold immediately, reduced supply of raw materials, to the lack of raw material reserves.
Therefore, FPIK Unpad is trying to research to solve this problem. “With this cold storage grant, it will strengthen research and learning in the fisheries cold chain system, which is one of FPIK UNPAD’s research priorities,” said Yudi.
Yudi further said that FPIK UNPAD would make a mini-pilot project of a fishery chain system with an e-tourism approach through this facility. This facility will be a pilot warehouse for raw fish materials and processed products. In addition, this frozen warehouse will also be one of the learning objects for students in developing downstream fisheries products. “To optimize the cold storage function, we have prepared complementary facilities in the form of fishery product showcases,” said Yudi.*
