The philosophy
The Study Programme of Marine Science offers a diverse range of ocean science courses at undergraduate level. Marine Science at Padjadjaran University is an extensive study of the physical, chemical, biological, and geological aspects of the ocean. The goals of this curriculum is to analyze the conservation system based on the four based of oceanography. The Foundation courses include: Marine Sciences curriculum provides a solid foundation to prepare you for a rewarding career or further graduate studies. The following mandatory classes and optional courses and programs will allow you plenty of opportunities for hands-on field and lab work, as well as chances to actively explore your individual interests and career goals.
With four year degree, the students will explore all ocean study and will gain advance knowledge and practical skills to solve ocean challenges. The students spend time in class, laboratory, community, and field work to have better understanding about ocean. The facilities are exceptional at Padjadjaran University to create a good knowledge. Padjadjaran University has experimental laboratory, marine station, and field station.

Benchmarks | : | Marine Science Study Programme (IKL-Unpad) organize one higher education course: undergraduate course. IKL-Unpad is systematically designed so that graduates from IKL-Unpad have capability in understanding about ocean such as, 1) physical, chemical, and biological of ocean include sediment and coastal area, 2) Marine biota, 3) Tropical ecology, 4) Marine Biotechnology. Students also learn about several methods in oceanography, analysis and sampling in real activities using laboratory and field instruments and remote sensing. Furthermore, to gain these knowledge, students are required to undertake a minimum of 144 credits. |

1. Programme Outline
The bachelors in Marine Science programme has been designed blending elements of Marine Science programme whilst dedicated to promote understanding and advanced skills relating to marine and coastal conservation. The programme provides insights into ‘real-world’ applications as well as maximising the skills of students to produce skilled graduates with marine biotechnology, hydro-oceanography, and conservation as their specialities for the utilization of marine biological potential resources by applying understanding and principles of conservation of resources and the marine environment.
2. Programme Aims
- Carry out quality marine science learning to produce graduates who have competence in the field of conservation and utilization of marine resources, so they are able to take part in the world of work.
- Producing graduates who have independence, integrity and leadership, so that they are able to contribute to the development of marine science and technology and are beneficial for the life of society, nation and state.
- Improve the quality and quantity of research that focuses on issues in the scope of conservation and utilization of marine biological resources, both as scientific development and in contributing to solving problems in coastal and marine areas.
- Improve the quality and quantity of community service activities that involve lecturers and students as a form of scientific contribution in community empowerment.
- The implementation of an education management system that applies the principles of higher education quality assurance, both to inputs, processes and outputs based on legislation, vision, mission and basic values of Universitas Padjadjaran.
- The realization of partnerships with various domestic and foreign organizations for the implementation and development of higher education.

Intellectual abilities
On successful completion of this programme, you will be able to:
- Apply the fundamentals of each major discipline (chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics) to the marine sciences especially in marine conservation. The students are able to figure out and analyse the relationship between the basic science related to marine conservation especially in cases in Indonesia.
- Operate the core concepts in biological, chemical and physical processes in marine environments and their interactions.
- Understand the biology and ecology of marine species, along with their relationships with their habitats throughout all marine ecosystems. These systems include coastal, shallow water, water column and deep ocean.
- Understand the organisation of biological organisms from a whole individual to cellular and genetic levels.
- Collect quantitative data from the biological and physical marine environment
- Understand the global issue implications such as climate change on marine environment, and the role of marine systems in climate change
- Be aware of human impacts and exploitations towards the biological and physical environment, natural resources, and the resulting feedback on human societies especially in coastal areas
- Be a specialist topic selection in research frontiers in marine biology and other required techniques used to investigate the system.
- Apply the range of mathematical and statistical methods to biological and physical marine sciences.
Practical skills
On successful completion of this programme, you will be able to:
- Plan, design, conduct and report both verbally and in writing on investigations, including the use of primary and secondary data.
- Collect, record and analyse primary data using appropriate techniques in the field and laboratory
- Undertake field and laboratory investigations in a responsible and safe manner, paying due attention to risk assessments, rights of access, relevant health and safety regulations, and sensitivity towards the impact of investigations on the environment and stakeholders.
- Locate, retrieve, read, use and reference the marine science work of others in an appropriate manner.
- Able to use relevant software that are commonly used in marine science topics.

4. Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy
Higher education in Indonesia is undergoing a period of rapid and significant change, and it is being asked to equip students to play an effective role in Indonesia and global society. The Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy is one of the important strategies referred to Indonesia Higher Degree Education system and Universitas Padjadjaran rules. The lectures in Universitas Padjadjaran have to pass two formal courses (PEKERTI and AA), in order to enhance knowledge about teaching strategy, learn Outcome Based Education, and communication skills.
